Legalization/Verification
Original Nigerian documents must be verified and legalized by competent authorities in order to be recognized in Denmark.
The purpose of a verification is to confirm the veracity of a document. The purpose of a legalization is to confirm the authority of the signatory of a document.
It is the responsibility of the holder of a Nigerian document to have the documents verified and legalized when required, f.i. marriage or divorce certificates prior to getting married or applying for family reunification; birth, death, adoption or sole custody certificates prior to applying for family reunification or work and residence permit, etc.
Verification and legalization is at the expense of the holder.
Follow these steps:
- For verification, contact one of the below-mentioned legal practitioners approved by the Embassy.
- For legalization contact the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
- Once legalized in the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy can legalize the signature of the consular officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

- For the amount of fee in NGN, see here. One fee for each legalization, so if you have two documents, it will be two times the fee.
- Contact Embassy for appointment by e-mail [email protected] or by phone +234 (0) 9 903 6636 on Mondays and Wednesdays between 12 noon - 2 p.m.
- On the day of appointment, bring documents to be legalized and documentation for the transfer of fee to the Embassy.
