European Parliament Elections in Denmark - Sunday 9 June 2024

European Parliament Elections to be held in Denmark on 9 June 2024 Eligible voters can cast their vote from 9 March 2024.

On Sunday 9 June 2024, elections will be held for the election Danish members to the European Parliament.

Voters who can vote in the election can cast their postal vote at the Royal Danish Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos. Voters can cast their postal vote from Saturday 9 March 2024.

Your postal vote must be received at the relevant municipality on election day, Sunday 9 June 2024 at 9 AM, in order to be counted. It is therefore recommended to vote as early as possible. In order for the Missions in Nigeria to return your postal vote in time, we recommend that you cast your vote no later than Monday, May 20, 2024. No voters who cast a postal vote after this date will be disqualified, regardless of the risk that the postal vote may not reach home in time.

Please remember to bring valid photo identification when showing up at the relevant Danish representation.

Who Can Vote?
Any person who:

  • has attained the age of 18 years,
  • is a national of Denmark residing in Denmark or one of the other EU Member States or
  • is a national of one of the other EU Member States residing in Denmark may vote in the election to the European Parliament in Denmark.

However, In Denmark voting is not compulsory. It is therefore your own choice, whether you want to vote.

Furthermore, the following persons are not eligible to vote:

  • persons, that have been expelled from Denmark by a court judgement, and
  • persons, that have been expelled from Denmark by administrative decision

People living in the Faroe Islands or Greenland are also ineligible to vote in the election to the European Parliament because the Faroe Islands and Greenland are not members of the EU.

You can vote for a party or a candidate who is standing for election.
