After you have applied

Processing time for visa applications is normally up to 15 calendar days. You will be contacted by VFS when a decision is reached and your documents are ready for collection. Please do not contact the Embassy for updates on the status of your application within the first 15 days.

Processing time
The processing time for visa applications is normally up to 15 calendar days. The counting starts from the day the Embassy receives the hard copy of your application. The Embassy normally receives applications from VFS the day after they were submitted to VFS. Applications submitted to VFS on Fridays will normally reach the Embassy on the following Monday.

Some applications have to be referred to the immigration service in Denmark and may thus take between 30-60 days to process. Applications should therefore be submitted as early as possible, but not more than 3 months before planned departure.

Decision
You will be contacted by VFS when a decision is reached and your documents are ready for collection. Documents belonging to applicants from other countries than Nigeria can be returned by courier once a decision is reached, provided that the applicant has paid the expense upon submitting the application.

Validity of visa and length of stay
A Schengen-visa can only be issued for a total of 90 days; should you need to stay in Denmark for a longer period, you must apply for a residence permit. A Schengen visa does not allow the applicant to take up employment, establish a business, trade or profession.

Please note, that the validity period of a visa and the granted duration of stay is not the same. Both the validity period during which the traveler can enter Schengen and the length (days) of the granted stay is printed on the visa. Entry and exit is not allowed outside the validity period, and the length of the visit cannot exceed the granted stay.

A visa will always be issued with a validity that exceeds the number of days that the applicant has been granted permission to stay in Schengen, in order to allow the traveler some flexibility. For example: If you have applied for a 10 days visa, the Embassy will give you 15 days of grace, in total 25 days. But the effective period of stay will still be 10 days as you applied for.

Enquiries
Please do not contact the Embassy for updates on the status of your application within the first 15 days after submitting the application. You should only contact the Embassy if you have new information in relation to your application. Danish law prevents the Embassy from giving information concerning visa cases to any third party. Thus you must be able to prove your identity, should you wish to enquire in a specific case.
